Why Beaujolais Wine Should Be The Only Red You Drink This Summer

July 8, 2009 by Wine Gal

Well known for it’s ability to produce fruity red wines that don’t leave you with that heavy feeling that some reds too, the Beaujolais wine region is the place to look if you’re after some reds to drink this Summer, and with Majestic Wines currently offering 20% off when you buy two bottles or more, there’s no time like the present to stock up.

Offering individiual wine bottles from £6.99 to £11.99, these bottles are all in a price range that should have you enjoying a beautiful tasting wine, however for me there are a few that jump out.

And the reason why is the lightness of them.

Why is that so important? Because for me (and my tastebuds are just my own so feel free to disagree) if you’re looking for a red to drink in the Summer you really want it to be something refreshing, and you can’t get much better than that than with a chilled bottle of Beaujolais red wine that has the fruit without the weight.

And three that match all that are:

1. 2007 Beaujolais Lantignié Louis Jadot

Made from the Gamay grape, this Beaujolais from Louis Jadot may be one of the lightest on the market, but still manages to pack a bunch with flavours, with your palate being awakened by gorgeously rounded cherry and raspberry flavours that are stopped from being too sweet by a peppery undertone that dances around your mouth.

For me, it can’t taste better than when it’s chilled and served witha gorgeous salas and light Summer buffet.

The Beaujolais Louis Jadot is currently available for the reduced price of £7.99 (usually £9.99) a bottle when you buy two or more at Majestic Wines.

2. 2006 Domaine Des Nugues Beaujolais

I can’t say that this Beaujolais is going to be the best wine you’ve ever tasted, but at the same it’s one of those wines that’s like a good friend – you know you will always enjoy drinking with it and there won’t be any big surprises.

And whilst it may not be exciting, your tastebuds will still be taken on a journey as this ruby red wine teases them with ripe red fruits and wonderfully full spices before gently fading away.

Usually available for £8.99, this wine is currently available for £6.95 when you buy two or more bottles at Majestic Wines.

3. 2006 Beaujolais Villages Château des Maladrets

A wonder purple in colour, this Beaujolais looks like it should be full of flavour and the good news is it is, and this time round it’s intense blackcurrant flavours that will bounce around in your mouth coating it with those wonderful juicy flavours that are stopped form being too sweet by a hint of white pepper.

Usually £7.99 a bottle, these bottles are now only £6.39 each when you buy two or more from Majestic Wines.

All prices were correct on the 8th July 2009 but are subject to change at any time.
